We cannot do this work alone. Give the gift of care.

We are grateful for your interest in volunteering. Your time, talents and passion help promote health, hope and dignity for individuals and families affected by homelessness.

Collaborative Pathways to Healing

Annually, more than 500 volunteers provide 18,000+ hours of care to our patients. The majority of our volunteers provide direct care for individuals affected by homelessness alongside a dedicated team offering medical, dental and mental health services.

HHH clinics are located within and work collaboratively with other social service agencies addressing the complex needs of those we serve. All volunteer shifts take place at our Caroline Street Clinic.

From time to time, we offer non-clinical opportunities to support our programs, events and other needs. At this time, we do not have any non-clinical volunteer opportunities.

Community Volunteers

Our volunteer program is an excellent way for students interested in the medical or dental field to gain hands-on experience and learning.

Medical clinic student volunteers must commit to at least 104 consecutive hours by volunteering one three- or four-hour shift per week.

Dental clinic student volunteers must commit to at least 240 consecutive hours by volunteering two, four-hour shifts per week.

Special Update

HHH offers unique volunteer opportunities that allow licensed clinical professionals to give back to their community, deepen their knowledge and skills in their field of study and fulfill any clinical practicum requirements. Clinical professionals fulfilling practicum requirements must be affiliated with a licensed institution of higher learning, and an affiliation agreement must be negotiated between that institution and HHH.

Please note that all applicants must have:

  • Current Texas licensure for your profession

  • Professional liability insurance

  • Privileges by the HHH Board of Directors

FAQs

Are you a volunteer-run clinic?

No. HHH has a paid staff of about 75 people, both part-time and full-time. Volunteers help extend our reach by supporting initiatives like Project Access, allowing us to better serve those experiencing homelessness in our community.

Do you need volunteer clinicians?

Yes, especially primary care physicians and nurse practitioners. Current Texas licensure to practice and malpractice insurance are required. Clinicians must also be privileged by the HHH Board of Directors, a process that takes some time to complete prior to volunteering.

When can I begin volunteering after I apply?

Opportunities are limited and may not be immediately available. Submitting an application is the first step, and we’ll reach out if a shift that matches your availability opens up.

Can I volunteer even if I don’t have any previous medical training or experience?

Yes! Our current volunteer opportunities with Project Access do not require medical or dental training. We’ll provide all the guidance you need — all you need is a desire to serve, an interest in helping others, and a commitment to supporting the mission of HHH.

When are the volunteer shifts?
Volunteer shifts with Project Access are currently available on:

  • Mondays, 8:00 a.m. – 12:00 p.m.

  • Wednesdays, 8:00 a.m. – 12:00 p.m.

Can I volunteer in the evening or on the weekend?

Not at this time. Current Project Access opportunities take place during weekday mornings only.
